Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Last Week
What a fun week it has been. Friday was a blast with our "Bucks for Brown" celebration! The weather was perfect and we hadFor all who have submitted a volunteer sheet, the volunteer list for trips and parties was sent to you last week.
Please let me know if you did not receive it or if your contact info is incorrect. Thank you for your willingness to help.
Tuesday morning is our trip to Dinges Farm. As of right now, the weather looks perfect! Please be sure to dress you child for the weather (which may include boots). We will still go if it is drizzling, but hopefully that won't be the case. I have sent maps
to the parents who are assigned to chaperone this trip. The cost for students is covered, but parents will be charged $4 at the farm. We will meet you there around 9:15. Thank you for adhering to the schedule.
I now have everyone scheduled for a conference with me. Thank you for prioritizing this time for your child. We are a team in
his/her learning this year. It is important that we work together to make this the best year possible for your child with optimum
learning. I look forward to my time with you all.
During Daily 5, our language arts time, we are learning to identify the main idea and supporting details of a story. See if
your child can identify these things in a story read at home. I think you will be surprised.
In Science for the Weather Watching unit we will talk about how the weather changes with the seasons. We will use what the weather is like on their birthdays to make this point clear to them. We use Mystery Science as a curriculum. We all love it!
Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@stjoebears.com) with any questions you may have regarding any of our
“kindergarten stuff.”

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!
We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day. Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week
The biggest news next week is that we are adding a new student to our class!! We are all very excited to welcome Emerson Osborn to join our school family. The children can not wait to meet our new friend and help him to feel comfortable here at Brown. As highlighted above this will make our total enrollment 25 children for snacks.
Next week we will continue to work on the skills of identifying main idea and supporting details using the book, What Are Some Rules At Home? Ask your child if the rules we are reading about in school are the same as some you have at home.
We have ½ days on Thursday and Friday, 10/14, 15, due to parent teacher conferences. Dismissal time is 12:09. I will see you all then 😊.
Our next Guest Reader, Mrs. Chynoweth, will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 13th. Please bring
2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest
reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Reader Sign Up Sheet
Please continue to work on pulling jacket sleeves right side out and zipping. The boys and girls feel so good about
themselves when they can do these things independently. A couple quick sessions, and they will have it! Thank you.
Upcoming Events
There will be no school for students on Monday, 10/18 due to Teacher In-service.
A very important upcoming event in our family is that our 5th grandchild is due to arrive October 25th! My daughter Sarah and
family live in Memphis, TN. They do not have family there so I will be going to help and support them and our 2 wonderful
granddaughters (age 6 and 15 months) during and after the he or she arrives. While I am away, 10/25-11/3, Mrs. Caplea and
Mr. Russell will be teaching our class. They both have met/taught the children and are great, guest teachers. In fact,
Mrs. Caplea was a kindergarten teacher before she decided to be a stay at home mom. I am happy to answer any questions
about this during our conference this week.
Our Fall Festival will be on Friday, October 29th. The children may bring costumes to school that day for the party. Please
keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that
might scare the children or masks worn. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and
able to enjoy the day. If you have any questions about your choice, please ask.
