Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Last Week
Our trip to Dinges Farm was so fun! The weather could not have been better and the children loved it! A huge thank you goes out to all our parent chaperones for this trip. We appreciate you so much!
Daily 5 has been going great. Our Stamina is increasing and the children are making good choices of which of the 5 to choose. “Listen to Reading,” is going well. We know that children learn through modeling, so much importance is placed upon them hearing books read well. That is why it is so important that you read daily to your child at home (aside from it being a great time to snuggle and bond at the end of the day ☺).
After reading a story to your child, ask him/her to identify the main idea for you. Once that is established, see how many details he/she can list for you. You might even ask if the book is fiction or nonfiction. You may be surprised at how much your kindergartner can tell you.
Last week I sent home a sheet telling how to help your child login to Lexia Core 5. This is a wonderful, fun program the
district has purchased for all our elementary students. Everyone has taken the placement test here at school and is ready to
use this program at home. We will continue to use this at school, but would like for each student to spend time on it at home
as well each week. Please read the letter completely to get a good understanding of how it works. It is important that your
child works without any help while using Core 5. This way I can see where help is needed for additional instruction.
I think you will agree that it is a great addition to our learning ☺.
Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@stjoebears.com) with any questions you may have regarding any of our
“kindergarten stuff.”
Snack and Leaders
Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!
We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day. Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week
There will be no school for students on Monday, 10/18 due to Teacher In-service.
Tuesday is Donuts with My Main Character @ 7:45 on the school playground - please join us!
Please return the signed Hearing and Vision form that was sent home on Friday asap. Testing is on Wednesday, Thursday. and Friday. This is a wonderful service for our students. The techs do a great job and will have results to you soon after testing. If the results are normal you will not hear from them. So...no news is good news 😊.
Our next Guest Reader, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 20th. Please bring
2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest
reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Reader Sign Up Sheet
We still have several students who are not able to pull coat sleeves right side out and put on jackets independently. Please
spend some time working on this skill with your child. It is one of those benchmarks the children are proud to master.
Upcoming Events
Our Fall Festival will be on Friday, October 29th. Parents are just beginning to plan for a great time ☺. The children should wear costumes to school the day of the party (this is different from other years). Be sure to keep in mind your child's ability to use the restroom throughout the day in his/her chosen costume. Please keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that might scare the children. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and able to enjoy the day. If you have any question about your choice, please ask. The kindergarten classes will not be participating in the Halloween parade. We have found that some of the costumes can be scary and we can look forward to more time for our party ☺.
