Week of March 28

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

I know I wasn't going to send a blog this week but I wanted to mention a few things.

On Monday Mrs. Schueneman (Karly's mom) came to teach us about Nutrition. She is a Dietitian and part of her job is to teach children about eating healthy. She did a beautiful job and we all enjoyed learning what different color fruits and vegetables do for our bodies. Your child came home with 2 sheets in a page protector so that he/she may keep track of the different color foods eaten. A dry erase marker can be used each week and then erased for use the next week. The children were excited about doing this. I hope they will give it a try. 😀

Our trip to the Planetarium was great! It really is incredible that we have this state of the art facility in our school system. Be sure to ask your child to tell you about it.

Please make note that we now have 26 students for snack each day. Thank you!

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. If you are able to send Gluten free snacks that would be great too. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Week of March 21

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

Well. the weather was all over the place last week and promises to continue that trend for a while. Thank you for looking ahead to be sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for the day. We have had some high 40's to low 50 degree days when our winter coats are too warm, but we still need a jacket. I know the children appreciate staying comfortable while outside.

We began our Informational Writing unit last week by reading several informational texts that we have in our classroom library (mentor texts). We begin by discussing that one must be an expert to write a book about a subject. Our next step is to understand that we are all experts about some things too. We will brainstorm our individual "areas of expertise" (people in our family, sports we play, places, pets, dinosaurs, etc.) and begin writing.

We enjoyed hearing several Leprechaun stories on Thursday. It sounds like some of our families had a visit from some mischievous, little, green guys!

We had a fire drill on Friday which we haven't had since the fall.  They all did a very nice job of staying together and quiet during the drill. It was a bit chilly out there too.

Please make note that we now have 26 students for snack each day. Thank you!

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

We had a busy and fun week! Our author visit on Wednesday was amazing! I hope your child told you about Marc Tyler Nobleman and his wonderful presentation. Every student was engaged the entire time. He was interesting and quite funny. Be sure to ask if you haven't heard about this.

We had a tornado drill on Thursday. There was a bit of a twist for the class because they were in Art class at the time. It was good for them to learn what to do from places other than our classroom. They all did a very nice job.

Please make note that we now have 26 students for snack each day. Thank you!

Week of March 7

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

The most exciting news this week was the arrival of a new student! We were so happy to welcome Kelly Coburn to our class. I was proud of our class in that each student worked to help Kelly adjust to her new place with us at Brown.

Please make note that we now have 26 students for snack each day. Thank you!

The Variety Show was SO fun on Friday! The children behaved beautifully and enjoyed every minute. What a blessing that we are able to use the high school auditorium. It is almost as exciting for the audience as it is the performers.

As your child begins working on his/her March homework calendar, remember to send in the February calendar. The children love making that trip to the treasure chest.

I am sorry to say that I do not have any more Pizza Hut Book-It coupons. Many of us at Brown are finding that we were not given enough. I am working to find a way to get more. For the time being, I am keeping track of those who have earned a coupon and will get them out right away, if/when I get them.

The book orders sent home last Friday should be placed by Monday, March 7th. Of course, there is no obligation to order. This is strictly a service to you and your child. 📖

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day.
