Week of January 31

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

My report from Miss Kuriata was that all went well last week. I had hoped to be back on Thursday, but we needed to stay in the hospital a couple of extra days. There were a couple of hiccups, but his treatment got started and he is feeling pretty well. Thank you for the kind notes during our time away.

I will tell you though, I am SO excited to see my kiddos on Monday morning! I have missed them all!

I have sent out my parent/teacher conference schedule to those I would like to meet with. If you have not heard from me, I don't feel a conference is necessary for your child at this time. If you have any questions or would like to meet with me, just let me know. I will be happy to set up a time with you.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. If you are able to send Gluten free snacks that would be great too. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day. It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week

Next week is February already! This year is flying by!

On Monday I will send home our February Homework calendar

some important information about our 100th Day projects and directions regarding Valentines for our party. Miss Kuriata placed the February leader and event calendars in your child's folder last week (at least I hope she did).

Be sure to have your child return the January Homework/Book-it calendar for a trick to the treasure chest.

We will login to our Google Classroom Meet at 9 am (9:50 on Wednesday) and 1:10 pm for students who are in isolation or quarantined.

I thought I would resend this link in case any of you missed this. It really works! Tying shoes is a huge self esteem builder for our little ones. Of course, it is also a big help for the grown-ups 😀.

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

It sounds as though the class really enjoyed learning with Ms. Kuriata last week. I have missed each and every student and look forward to returning next week. In the meantime, I am comforted knowing they are be taught and well cared for in my absence.

I hear that the Ice Skating trip was a huge success! Miss Kuriata told me that all our students skated and had lots of fun. She mentioned that they all used Perseverance as many were trying skating for the first time. I look forward to seeing pictures. Please post to our Brown School fb page if you have some good ones. 😀⛸

All of Brown was invited to the 4th grade musical on Wednesday. Be sure to ask your child to tell you all about it.

I apologize that there were no remote lessons last week. Once I return, they will again be available for those under quarantine. We Login to our Google Classroom Meet at 9 am (9:50 on Wednesday) and 1:10 pm.

Next Week

We will have 2 guest readers next week! Mrs. Chynoweth, is coming Monday and

Mrs. Hill-Morales on Wednesday. Both may come at 3:15 with 2-3 books.

We all love this time so much!

Reminder--Wednesday is NOT a late start day. School begins at the regularly scheduled time.

Thursday and Friday, January 27, 28--1/2 day of school--Parent/Teacher conferences

At the time of this post, I am not completely certain which day I will be back next week.

As soon as that is determined, I will send out a sign up sheet for conferences.

I appreciate your flexibility.

Please watch this short video regarding learning to tie shoes. I had not seen it before and it is a game changer. I taught my 5 year old granddaughter to tie in minutes! This will be part of our Positivity Project lesson next week.

Week of January 17th

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

We took both NWEA assessments last week. We still have some make-up tests, but most are completed. The boys and girls did a nice job taking their time and doing their best work on these. As a reminder, we take the K-2nd grade test, which means students much older than our students are taking this same test. The specific questions are different based upon the answers given. Which means as you get answers correct, the problems get more difficult.

Thank you for your attention to the care of the computers. So far, we are doing well. What is also good is that more practice is being done using the apps on the computers. I was so happy to give away more Core 5 certificates last week than any week so far! Just a reminder that you are to keep the chargers at home now. Please be sure that the computer is charged each night before school the next day. Thank you!!

Our remote sessions are working well for those under quarantine. We Login to our Google Classroom Meet at 9 am (9:50 on Wednesday) and 1:10 pm. We all love seeing and interacting with our friends at home. For those experiencing this, please let me know if you think of ways I could do this better for your child.

Next Week

There is no school on Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The staff will be doing professional development for part of the day and then community service.

As per my email on Thursday night, I will be gone Tuesday, 1/18-Wednesday, 1/26 to be with my husband getting cancer treatment at University of Chicago. I'm sorry but there will be no remote lessons for those at home, in my absence. I will be back with remote lessons, if necessary, on Thursday, 1/27.

On Friday, 1/21 all of Brown School will go Ice Skating! Volunteers are needed for all grades. Please see Mrs. Bawks' blog for information regarding signing up to help with getting skates on and off, skating and supervision. Our class is going first thing, so please be sure to have your child to school on time.

Our Positivity Project trait is Perseverance.

You complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up.

Upcoming Events

I will reach out next week to schedule those who I would like to meet with.

Week of January 10

Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

Happy New Year to you all!

I hope y'all enjoyed our snow day on Friday. It was great that we knew the night before too.

Oh it has been so wonderful being together again. The cold temperatures kept us inside much of the week, but we found other ways to move and get the wiggles out. Thankfully we are able to use the Gym if it is not in use. We met Ms. B's class there and had lots of fun running and playing together.

As you all know, the students' computers were sent home on Thursday. We are going to see how our plan works with returning the computer and charger each day. Some other classes leave the chargers at home and only move the computers back and forth. For now, please return the charged computer and charger each day. If you have thoughts on how this might work better, I would love to hear them.

Our remote sessions are working well (from my perspective anyway) for those under quarantine. We Login to our Google Classroom Meet at 9 am and 1:10 pm. We all love seeing and interacting with our friends at home. For those experiencing this, please let me know if you think of ways I could do this better for your child.

Next Week

Next week we will take our mid-year NWEA assessments. My plan is to administer the Reading on Wednesday morning and Math on Friday morning. We will take these on the students' Chromebooks, so it is extremely important that all computers return each day. Thank you for your attention to this.

Our Positivity Project trait is Prudence.

You plan for the future and make good choices to achieve your goals.
